Last Thursday and Friday "Green Dream" played in Neues Kino in Basel as part of a month long program called Landscape Canada.
I was impressed with how well the program for the evening worked together, opening with a video art by Jessica Auer "Studies On How To View The Landscape", then a short film by Shannon Harris "To Taste The Ground" and finishing with "Green Dream". While each piece had its own distinct aesthetic approach both "Studies On How To View The Landscape" and "To Taste the Ground" shared common elements with "Green Dream" creating a layered program exploring different aspects of how we experience and care for the landscape.
Neues Kino is a unique cinema. I went to test the DCP the afternoon before the screening to find it tucked in a village like community.
I was happy to see that the courtyard of Neues Kino is a little wild garden in itself.
Inside the building of the cinema is a large room, that is used as a bar for the cinema. The projection room is lifted up and surrounded it overlooks the bar.
And finally, the screening at night came. Here is the screening room with its nice red seats. Both nights we had an engaged, warm and thoughtful audience, and we sat down and discussed the films over a beer in the bar after the screenings.
